English Language Arts
Language Arts is the vehicle of communication by which we live, work, share, and build ideas and understandings of the present, reflect on the past, and imagine the future. Through language arts, we learn to appreciate, integrate, and apply what is learned for real purposes in our homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.
As 21st century learners, students must develop a comfort with various modes of communication. Students should have experience and develop skills around technological tools used in the classroom and the world around them.
For this purpose, students in English Language Arts explore alternate ways of exploring and communicating their thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences as per the English Language Arts Program of Studies.
For those (parents) interested, the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) published an article on the Framework for 21st Century Curriculum and Assessment. The link to this article is http://www.ncte.org/governance/21stcenturyframework.
